At Meraki Jiu Jitsu, we transcend the concept of a traditional martial arts academy to create a space where passion and creativity manifest in every movement. Rooted in the Greek philosophy "Meraki," which means "to do something with soul, creativity, or love," our club invites you to express yourself and forge your own unique style on the mats. This is a high-quality, curated, and inclusive environment, where the "fit" within the community is paramount.
Our Programs: A Journey of Growth for All Ages
Meraki offers a structured curriculum that caters to various age groups and skill levels.
Adult Gi (Foundations and Advanced):
The cornerstone of the program. The Foundations class is inclusive for all levels, emphasizing "core positions and movements" for a "solid foundation". The Advanced class is a natural progression, focused on "combining classic forms of Jiu Jitsu with modern methods" and delving into the "nuances of each movement".
The Meraki Philosophy:
The philosophy of Meraki Jiu Jitsu is intrinsically linked to the deep meaning of the word "Meraki". This concept goes beyond the physical act, suggesting a profound and almost spiritual involvement. At Meraki, Jiu Jitsu is elevated from a mere sport to a form of personal art and development. The academy focuses on how the art is approached, not just on teaching movements, encouraging members "to think conceptually and to develop their own individual style". The academy's design is inspired by "geometric Bauhaus," emphasizing clean lines and a modern, minimalist approach. Our installation is "state-of-the-art," implying a premium training environment.
Jason Hunt
The story of Jason Hunt is one of the most compelling elements behind Meraki’s vision. In 2017, he co-founded the academy, becoming the driving force behind what it would grow to represent. His path is remarkable: after a career as Creative Director at Vidal Sassoon, he left the industry in 2007 to devote himself entirely to Jiu Jitsu in Brazil. His teaching style is often described as “almost scientific,” rooted in clarity and precision, with geometry serving as the foundation of his instruction. Jason embodies the rare balance between art and mastery, a presence that continues to shape not just the academy, but the very concept of Meraki itself.
