Located in West Los Angeles, MERAKI Jiu Jitsu transcends the definition of a traditional martial arts academy, establishing itself as a private members' club dedicated to the creative expression of the art of Jiu Jitsu. Our identity is deeply rooted in the philosophy of the Greek word "Meraki," which means "to do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself into your work".
Our Founder: Jason Hunt
Meraki was co-founded by Jason Hunt in 2017. He was the "main driver of the vision of what Meraki would become". His unique journey as a former creative director at Vidal Sassoon and an elite black belt is the reason for Meraki's unique identity: a fusion of artistic vision and elite martial arts mastery.
Where the Mundane Becomes Sacred
At Meraki, Jiu Jitsu is elevated from a mere sport to a form of personal art and development. Our philosophy goes beyond the physical act, suggesting a deep and almost spiritual involvement, transforming the "monotonous and mundane" into a "sacred instant". We encourage members "to think conceptually and to develop their own individual style" to maximize "technical, physical, and mental benefits".
